For these opportunities, CRS partners with a network of colleges and universities along with other organizations to offer paid internships. The Student Internship Program (SIP) is an experiential learning program designed to: 1) introduce a group of undergraduate and graduate students to career opportunities with the Congressional Research Service; 2) provide an opportunity for students to learn more about advanced studies as a means to fulfill their long-term career objectives; and 3) to position CRS as a future employer of choice.

Student Internship Program (SIP)
The Library of Congress/Congressional Research Service (CRS) Student Internship Program is a up to ten week internship program for students from all backgrounds who are looking to gain exposure to the work that supports congress and careers in public service are encouraged to apply. CRS is based in Washington, D.C. however some summer internships may be eligible for telework outside of the Washington, D.C. region. The salary range for positions performed outside the D.C. region will be based on the locality pay of the remote location. Relocation expenses are not authorized under this posting.
Students can find outstanding opportunities to apply their academic and professional experience in a CRS internship. CRS needs individuals from a broad range of subjects and disciplines including law, economics, foreign affairs, the physical and behavioral sciences, environmental science, public administration, the social sciences, library and information science, information technology and finance.
The infrastructure Offices oversee CRS's long-term goals and provide management and administrative support to Divisions. Interns working in the infrastructure Offices may work on information management support and technology; communications; graphics and publishing; and facilities management among other tasks. Students can earn hands on experience in their fields of study.
CRS interns working in one of the Divisions will assist in performing research in response to congressional inquiries regarding public policy. Interns help provide support to Members of Congress and staff throughout the legislative process and thereby develop their research skills. The nature and scope of each internship project will vary by subject area.
CRS staff are nationally recognized analysts and information specialists, and students have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the Congress and the legislative process.
