  • -  An outgrowth of the political bitterness of Jefferson's administration. Two letters were written to the President over the signature of Nicolas Geffroy of Newport, R.I., which turned out to be forgeries. Senator Ellery (Republican, R.I.) accused Representative Rutledge (Federalist, S.C.) of writing them; this pamphlet supports that accusation.
