- Presented here is a printed edition of Chong xiu Jiangnan Huagai Shan zhi (A newly compiled gazetteer of Mount Huagai to the south of the Yangtze River) from the Jiajing reign (1522-66). The work has a rectangular-shaped seal impression of Tianyige Library, and the title was recorded in that library's catalog. It was originally compiled by the Daoist Zhang Yuchu (1359-1410) and issued with a preface by him dated 1407. It was reissued after the Yongle reign (1403-24) in an edition that replaced the Daoist stories with orthodox poems and essays. At the end of the work is an inscription, which proclaims that it was issued in the 34th year of Jiajing (1555) by Daoist priest Xu Yunsheng, at his own expense, together with four other persons. No information exists on Xu Yunsheng. Mount Huagai, a sacred Daoist place, is situated in Le'an County, Fuzhou Prefecture, Jiangxi Province. The work contains three parts. The first part introduces the most scenic spots near Mount Huagai, such as hills, caves, peaks, cliffs, ponds, lakes, temples, and pavilions. The second part provides historical records, imperial orders, and inscriptions. The third part contains literary works, including poems, essays, and biographies. At the end of the volume is the preface of Zhang Yuchu of 1407 that appeared in the original edition of the work. World Digital Library.
- Recompiled and printed by Xu Yunsheng during the Jiajing Period (1522-1566), based on the version revised by Wang Keming in the Song Dynasty, with stories about Daoism omitted and several poems and essays added.
