  • Photographs from various publishers show Valley Street in Hot Springs, Ark.; a general store in Vinita, Okla.; main Street in Louisville, Ken. after the 1890 tornado; the cabin in which Abraham Lincoln was born in Hodgensville, Ken.; a magnesium light view of the interior of Mammoth Cave; a cityscape view of Asheville, N.C.; a hospital and house in Beaufort, S.C., possibly taken during the Civil War; scenes along Battery Street in Charleston, S.C.; also war ruins in Charleston. Two stereographs dating from the Civil War era show African Americans working in cotton fields, as well as their houses on Retreat Plantation, Port Royal Island, S. C. Stereographs of Tenn. show the railroad on Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga; Linus cottage(?) near Lookout Mountain; and a view of Chattanooga looking southwest from the station house. One stereograph shows a rock, probably in Harper's Ferry, W.V., inscribed "John Brown 1859."

    • Yes, the item is digitized. Please use the digital image in preference to requesting the original. All images can be viewed at a large size when you are in any reading room at the Library of Congress. In some cases, only thumbnail (small) images are available when you are outside the Library of Congress because the item is rights restricted or has not been evaluated for rights restrictions.
