The text explains that the plates issued with the original ed. of Humboldt and Bonpland did not follow numerical order and omitted some plates. This issue of the maps is sequential and complete.
  • -  Plates in this issue were intended to accompany the 2nd printing, 1826. The plates are numbered 1 through 39 and include [28] single or half-sheet and [11] folded plates. Plate no. 23, Carte de l'ile de Cuba, reflects new observations by Humboldt and other travelers.
