  • Cartoon shows Japan, Germany (personified by Hitler), and Italy (personified by Mussolini) as Viking warriors plunging their swords into the mouth of a dragon labeled "Communist Menace." On November 6, 1937, Germany, Japan, and Italy signed a document establishing a Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis, formally aimed at combatting communism, but which other countries suspected to be directed toward other ends. The cartoonist pokes fun at the alliance of Germany (with its insistence on the superiority of the Aryan or Nordic race) with nations such as Italy and Japan.
