About this Item
Title
- "A cup of black powder and a few rounds of ammo? Certainly neighbor" / Herblock.
Summary
- Editorial cartoon shows two men who are political extremists; one representing out-left kooks, the other out-right kooks; each share a single minded pursuit of easy, illegal access to firearms, (both have stockpiles of various firearms and munitions in their bunker); but despite the similarities between the two in appearance and outlaw status (the out-right kook, holding a coffee mug and carrying a gun lobby catalogue stands at the bunker door of the out-left kook, who is reading the same catalogue), there is a careful differentiation between the two ideological allegiances of each figure, (the out-left kook has posters of Che Guevara and Eldridge Cleaver on his wall and the out-right kook has posters of Lester Maddox and Spiro Agnew on his wall).

Notes
- - Caption label from exhibit "Herblock!" (2009) "Everything's [Not] Okay": In a comical encounter between political extremists on the left and the right, Herblock stresses the common ground they share in the single-minded pursuit of easy, illegal access to firearms. He also carefully differentiates between the ideological allegiances of each figure, despite the amusing similarities between the two in appearance and outlaw status. A firm believer in curbing the availability of arms as a means of saving lives, Herblock tirelessly advocated for strong gun-control legislation.
