Notes
- - Caption label from exhibit Art in Action Media: Trying to Intimidate the Press. Plunging across a TV screen in this cartoon, President Richard Nixon bends under the weight of coverage that his administration has approved official releases, briefings, special pronouncements, and perhaps most intriguing of all, "Highest Sources," which he holds tightly in his hand. His looming figure bears communiques that collectively form "The Administration Line" and nearly obscures the tiny figure representing the free press on the lower right. Herblock gives bold graphic form to his critique of administration officials seeking to discourage free and vigorous coverage of the administration.
