• -  封面封底佚去。卷一題"姚秦三藏法師鳩摩羅什奉詔譯"。前刻佛經故事圖，釋道宣《妙法蓮華經弘傳序》。正文前扉畫繪刻精細，全畫是一幅故事畫的構圖，佔了七個褶葉的畫面以"之"字佈局，連貫著一個一個的單元場景。這些單元並非按照經文的次第來安排，而是對經文中的重要宗教理念作出形象化的說明。這些形象化的單元有高度概括性，每一單元都標上說明，如"靈山妙會"，"授聲聞記"，"三車出宅"，"聚沙為塔"，"王子覆講"，"妙音東來"，"智積文殊"，"藥王燃臂"，"千佛授手"等等，佈局十分繁複，卻沒有擁擠的感覺。尤其難得的是，綫條清晰利落，毫芒畢現，雕刻水平十分高超.
• -  本書的刊印年代，可由刻工推知。卷端扉畫末左下鐫"四明陳高刀"，而在全數34葉中的20葉，有"陳忠"、"洪新"、"洪茂"、"蔣暉"等刻工名字（隱藏於接縫内）。據王重民考證，這五人中有兩人在1146年刻過《事類賦》，有三人在1158年刻過《文選》，有一人在1164年刻過《武經龜鑒》，都是杭州及附近地區的刊本，因此認為此本《妙法蓮華經》當是1160年前後杭州地區的刻本（John M. Rosenfield [Harvard University]: "The Sedgwick Statue of the Infant Shotoku Taishi", Archives of Asian Art 22 [1968/69] p.63引王重民說；Sedgwick，Ellery: "A Chinese printed scroll of the Lotus Sutra", Library of Congress Quarterly Journal of Current Acquisition 6:2 [February 1949] p.9），是見證當時該地區印書高度水平的代表作.
