- - A note on fly-leaf of primo violin part reads: "This copy of Matteis Ayres in 4 vols, 3 printed from engraved plates and one in manuscript ('The second violin part to parts one and two I believe were never printed as no copy is known') from a complete set of his works for the violin, and I believe the only one existence. It is so rare that Rimbault knew only of some imperfect copies in the Bodleian Library"--T.W. Taphouse.
