Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan, known as the "Fort Hood shooter," faced his Article 32 Hearing the military equivalent of a preliminary hearing for thirteen counts of premeditated murders and thirty-two counts of attempted murder. Retired Army Colonel John Galligan, a former military judge who led his defense, looks spirited in comparison to the wan Hasan, who had received a spinal cord injury as a result of gunfire exchanged during his attack on the military base at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009. The Virginia-born Hasan is currently awaiting execution at the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. The United States Army never characterized his attack as an act of terrorism.

All images can be viewed at a large size when you are in any reading room at the Library of Congress.
