  • Birds-eye view print shows the fortress of Schenckenschans built at the confluence of the Waal and Rhine Rivers on the border between the Netherlands and Germany. Also visible are soldiers in boats and on land. In 1635 the fortress was captured and held by Spanish troops from the end of July 1635 until surrendering to Dutch forces on April 30, 1636. Identified in the print are details labeled A-M with a descriptive key in the upper right hand corner of the print. Also identified are the Die Wael [Waal] and Der Rhein [Rhine] rivers, "Die Bedav" and a village on the opposite bank of the Waal "Lobeck".
