About this Item
Title
- Doonesbury. We are the world -- we are the children! : we are the ones ...
Summary
- Four-panel comic strip shows a group of recording artists, including Tina Turner, Paul Simon, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Rogers, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Bette Midler, Stevie Wonder, and Doonesbury's own pop star, Jimmy Thudpucker, singing "We Are the World." It concludes, "We're saving our own lives ... it's true we make a better day, just you and me!" Jimmy interrupts, "Quincy, wouldn't 'you and I' be more grammatical?" This is one of a series of cartoons in which Trudeau commemorates and gently pokes fun at the recording made by 46 pop singers, under the aegis of USA for Africa, to raise money to alleviate famine in Africa.
