Summary

  • This lecture on the state of Russian Orthodoxy in America was given by Ioann Nedzel'nitskii (1866-1946), a Russian Orthodox priest who served for many years in the United States and was an early advocate for the establishment of an exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church in North America. Nedzel'nitskii was born into a priestly family in Odessa and was himself ordained in 1877. He served in a number of churches in the eastern United States, including in Pittsburgh; Lynn, Massachusetts; Minneapolis; and Chicago. Between 1906 and 1923 he served parishes in Russia, and during that time he lectured and published his writings. In the United States he was known as John Nedzelnitsky. Published in Odessa (in present-day Ukraine) in 1914, the lecture is preserved in the collections of the National Library of Russia. It was digitized for the Meeting of Frontiers digital library project in the early 2000s. World Digital Library.
