  • -  Publicity agency caption: The 26-story Rand Tower on Sixth and Marquette Street in downtown Minneapolis is one of the two Twin Cities skyscrapers purchased and resold by a group of New York investors in a deal believed to be the largest ever consummated in that area. Together with Foshay Tower, the properties were purchased from the Baker Foundation and Baker Properties Inc., by Robert K. Lifton, Ira J. Hechler and Howard L. Weingrow of New York and then resold to the Apache Realty Corporation and the Apache Oil Corporation of Minneapolis. The original sale to the New York investing group was negotiated by Herbert Papock, vice-president, and Albert Levitt of Collins Tuttle & Co., Inc., brokers. Wylie F. L. Tuttle and Mr. Papock were partners with Mr. Lifton in the purchase and resale of the properties.

All images can be viewed at a large size when you are in any reading room at the Library of Congress. In some cases, only thumbnail (small) images are available when you are outside the Library of Congress because the item is rights restricted or has not been evaluated for rights restrictions.
      As a preservation measure, we generally do not serve an original item when a digital image is available. If you have a compelling reason to see the original, consult with a reference librarian.
