- "During the 1890s, a significative number of Italian publications of cultural and artistic interest proliferated in Buenos Aires. This publicistic, understood as an editorial mechanism that diffuses ideological tendencies operating on society (Gramsci [1975]), was inserted in a widely dinamized cultural context produced the nineteenth-century immigration program in Argentina (i.e. polyglot culture or pluricultural). From the perspective of semiotics of culture, the Italian publicisticbetween 1890 and 1910 is as a (instructive) metatext of the interaction between migrant and local culture. In this instructional metatextappeared models of cultural interaction: convergent and divergent, that responded to the constraints or limits imposed by the hegemony in the textual plexus called -cultural nationalism.Among others, the studied sources are the journal La Patria degli Italiani, the magazines El Mundo del Arte, La Revista Artística and La Revista Teatral, and the commemorative books Gli italiani nella Repubblica Argentina and Il lavoro degli italiani nella R. Argentina. From the point of view of the textual theory and the gramscian methodology, these texts form a cultural space in close relationship with the Italian leadershipin Buenos Aires and a different ethical and ideological position of Italian anarchism and Argentine cultural nationalism. They build a differentiated history of Italian immigration, especially in the artistic space, and an aesthetic program that inexorably include them. Thus, the model of -itself (Lotman et al.1973) that shapes this culture is expansive, universalistic, with a strong linguistic idiosyncrasy; a culture where the central artistic genre is Italian opera. In addition, in arts criticism predominates a comprehension that favors the dominant senses, i.e.realistic (Rossi-Landi 1967)." -- Unedited abstract from work.
