About this Item
Title
- Giulia : una donna nella Toscana dei Medici
Summary
- Giulia is a girl abandoned at the birth in Florence of Francesco I dei Medici and Bianca Cappello, already the subject of historical research and some literary and cinematographic reworkings. The volume, thanks to the wealth of sources now found, presents a completely new and comprehensive biography of this woman of the sixteenth century, with an unpublished version of her personality and her story. Florence, the Casentino and the Valdinievole are the places of her existence, which fully reflects the condition of the woman in her era, lived by Giulia with courage and determination. The discourse develops on two intertwined levels, that of historical analysis and that of its narrative integration, with the hypothetical reconstruction of the areas left in the shade. This book enters by right into historiographic traditions by now widely codified and in a literary tradition defined by Giacomo Debenedetti as "historiography of interiority"--Translated from back cover via Google translate.
