- - The Guadalupe de Guanajuato mine was exploited in parallel to the Valenciana mine by the Marques de Rayas who in 1726 used gunpowder to be able to drill and drill. Baron de Humboldt described the techniques and their depth that reached the water table causing its flooding. A huge wall survives that surrounded the shaft supported by enormous buttresses that, resembling trunks, made the population renamed the place the elephant mine. Its miners joined the struggle for independence and later the labor movements of the 20th century that are remembered on an allusive plaque. It is part of the buildings nominated as World Heritage in Guanajuato.
