- - The Cathedral of León in Nicaragua is one of the largest in Central America. Construction began in 1746, it was completed in the 19th century and it was consecrated in 1860. There were previously 3 cathedrals, two of which were destroyed by pirate attacks. Its exterior is guarded by cement lions. It was designed by the Guatemalan mulatto architect Diego Jose de Porres. It consists of five vaulted naves, its façade is neoclassical and is characterized by its robust presence due to the seismicity of the area. Inside is the tomb of Ruben Dario.
