- - The prickly pear is the fruit of the agaves called nopales opuntia ficus-indica. It is native to Mexico and is highly appreciated for being fresh and juicy. It grows in desert and semi-desert areas such as Zacatecas. There are different colors, and it has a thick shell with thorns. It is eaten as sweet fresh fruit or prepared as prickly pear cheese in San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas. In Zacatecas, wine is made from the prickly pear.
- - Note in Spanish: La tuna o chumbera Es el fruto de los agaves llamados nopales opuntia ficus-indica. La tuna es originaria de México y es muy apreciada por ser fresca y jugosa. Crece en las zonas deserticas y semideserticas como zacatecas las hay de diferente color tiene una cascara gruesa con espinas. Se come como fruta fresca en dulce o en preparada como queso de tuna en san luis potosi y zacatecas. En zacatecas se elabora vino a partir de la tuna.
