- - The memorial to the 228 victims of the Maine was raised waterfront in Vedado in 1926. The historical fact has been much discussed There are versions that the explosion and sinking of the ship was the work of Spanish Cuban patriots and it is also said that this was an intentional act of self-destruction, although the version of an accident by internal failures ship appears be the most viable in any way the acontencimiento was used by the US to detonate the Spanish-American War and seize Spanish colonies. The sculpture has remained in place despite its controversial nature La Revolucion Cubana out of respect for the fallen but I leave the monument in 1961 off the eagle that crowned and effigies of three American politicians. In the monument cannons and chains ship names of the victims are kept and is distinguished by the inevitable columns that characterize the city.
