About this Item
Title
- Jerri J. Reed-Taylor interview conducted by Anita Grant, 2023-10-22
Summary
- Jerri J. Reed-Taylor -- a first-generation funeral home owner, mortuary science instructor at Malcolm X College of Mortuary Science, and member of the Board of Trustees for the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice (APFSP) -- was selected as the 2024 Professional of the Year by the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association. In this interview, Ms. Reed-Taylor shares the psychological impact of the pandemic from her perspectives as a wife, mother, and embalmer. Ms. Reed-Taylor also discusses how she and her colleagues transitioned to online instruction. This experience was especially challenging as students and faculty were navigating family deaths, job losses, and the need for proficient, online learning resources in a traditional brick and mortar mortuary science program.
