- - "I address a variety of issues through my work including current power structures within our society and how these issues impact our lives and the way we view ourselves and treat others. As I work I pose questions like: 'Who truly has power in our society? As human beings, why do we relate to each other and the planet the way we do? And what are the consequences to our society/world/planet when the technology we create evolves exponentially faster than we evolve as human beings.' Ultimately, I would describe my aesthetic as Zora Neale Hurston meets Octavia Butler in the Matrix. I want my work to convey a sense of beauty, humor, joy, magic, and a sense of urgency. These current times trouble me greatly, so my work functions as vehicle to process my feelings and frustrations about the state of the world and my place within it. It is my hope that my art provides a kind of creative balance as well as an impetus for others to reflect on these questions, ideas, and possibilities that my works present." Renee Stout.
