About this Item
Title
- Midas gold
Summary
- This work documents a steady increase in commercial failures within the twenty-five years before 1924. The book claims that in 1924 alone there were more than sixteen thousand business failures and points to overselling particularly of installment plans as a major culprit in this trend. It should be noted that this was hardly an objective study: for example, it discusses "Delineator-Designer's Place in the Building, Household and Decoration Field," and both the Delineator and the Designer were published by Butterick, the creator of this work. The introductory essay, putting credit in a favorable light, is by Christine Frederick. A photograph of Frederick is on p. 85. American Memory.
