Summary
- In 1984 South Central Los Angeles, Reva Styles sends her wild son Tre to live with his father, Furious Styles. He becomes close friends with Ricky and Doughboy Baker. Seven years later, the three are reunited at a barbecue for Doughboy's release from prison. Tre and Furious, a financial adviser who speaks out against violence between black gangs as serving white oppression, have a sturdy relationship. After taking his SAT exam, a gang member harasses Ricky, but Doughboy chases him away with a gun. Ricky and Tre are harassed by two policemen, one white and one black. Days later, Ricky and Tre are pursued by gang members and Ricky is killed. Tre briefly joins Doughboy in the search for the killers but returns home. Doughboy shoots them. Mrs. Baker receives Ricky's SAT results, which which would have gotten him into college. Doughboy is killed by gunmen and Tre goes to college.
