Title
- A place in the sun
Summary
- George and Alice are poor and lonely people who find comfort in each other. While Alice progresses to real love for George, he finds love elsewhere within the wealthy social set to which he aspires. When the pregnant Alice appears at the mountain lake resort where George and the socialite Angela, his fiancee, are on vacation, his confused emotions lead him to take Alice into a boat with the intention of drowning her. He can't go through with it, but a misstep ends in Alice's drowning anyway. George is arrested, convicted of premeditated murder, and condemned to the electric chair.
