Imperfect with several leaves replaced with facsimiles, including t.p. Different state of portrait of Shakespeare mounted on t.p. over original engraving. Receipt for portrait, dated Nov. 29, 1922, laid in; mss. notes on back of receipt on different states of portrait.
  • -  LC copy has armorial bookplate of Cholmondeley, Earl of Cholmondeley on front paste-down with “Inserted by JBD” in mss; bookplate likely added by Batchelder with inscription indicating it is not original. Typed sheet detailing provenance of the copy mounted on front fly-leaf. Volume heavily annotated in several different hands in pencil and ink, with some pencil annotations traced over in ink.
  • -  LC copy housed in cloth clamshell box. Bound in red textured cloth with silver etched oval centerpiece and fore-corners. Leather label on spine with title "Shakespeare's plays." Remnants of metal and ribbon tie enclosure on volume, with remaining ribbon laid in clamshell box. 2 notecards with additional information about the volume, one typed and the other handwritten, also laid in box.

Typed note regarding conservation mounted on rear paste-down. Housed in cloth clamshell box. Rebound by LC in 1982 in full, white pigskin. Calfskin covers in which the volume arrived at the Library are housed in clamshell box. Also laid in box are 6 engraved plates of portraits of Shakespeare; 1 plate of Shakespeare's house in Stratford; and 4 items of ephemera concerning the volume.
