Summary
- Primarily student works by Howard Dearstyne, executed during his study of architecture and design with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Ludwig Hilberseimer, and Josef Albers, both at the Bauhaus and privately; some drawings show changes and corrections by Mies van der Rohe. Includes architectural drawings for houses, lettering studies, and furniture designs. Also includes working drawings for an architectural center and a shopping center done in association with A. Lawrence Kocher. In addition, the collection includes architectural drawings and design drawings by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Lilly Reich, Fritz Schreiber, Karl Lindner, and Ivo Pannaggi, a rendering by Hinnerk Scheper, reproductions of photographs of houses, commercial buildings, exhibition buildings, and exhibition installations by Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich, and maps of Berlin.

- - Howard Dearstyne studied under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin, Germany, from 1928 to 1933, and was the only American to receive a Bauhaus diploma. Dearstyne continued to maintain a relationship with Mies van der Rohe, first studying privately with him in Berlin, and ultimately teaching with him at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
