  • -  Part 7 of a 7-part recording of a visit with Janie Doss and children Mark, Tracy, and Lisa, at the home of Janie and Keith Doss, Rt. 2 Box 280B, Tifton, GA, location identified on fieldworker Thomas Adler's field map of Tift County GA as site H (lat-long: 31.380925, -83.489494): about children's cooking, Mark recites his recipe for meatloaf, learned by watching his mother; fieldworker's log states that "throughout the rest of this tape, there will be occasional references in speech and sound to the dinner that Janie was beginning to prepare, it being about 5:30" adding that the dinner is summarized on page 70 of Adler's fieldnotes at call number AFC 1982/010: Box 4, Folder 40, digital sequence 73), menu included black-eyed peas, biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, and hamburgers-in-gravy; fieldworker explains documentation equipment to Janie and the children, mention of palm reading, Mark and Tracy sing a song, Tracy in falsetto, "Oh won't you sit down, Lord I can't sit down, 'Cause I just got to heaven, want to look around"; comments on songs, telling some jokes, about the "second biggest magnolia tree" south of Tifton, used to be number one; Mark will be 10 August 28, wants to be a policeman, Tracy wants to be horse-breaker like her aunt, or a jockey; saying tongue twisters; recording then includes the sound track of a television feature on the project, not directly related to Doss family visit, broadcast on WALB in Albany GA, featuring fieldworker Rusty Marshall, farmer Allen Shellhorse, and the choir from St. Marks Baptist Church, duration of part 7 is 14 minutes.
