- - Summary: In a two-part interview, musician Nick Gaitan talks about his parents and the historically significant and personal connection Chicano music had in the early part of his life. He recollects the influence his parents and siblings had in steering his musical taste. Nick discusses learning to play the guitar and his first band and the Houston Music Register, a publication that listed all of the musical acts in town. Nick shares about the circuitous ways in which he started playing bass, meeting fellow musician and longtime collaborator, Robert Rodriguez as well as playing in the band, Los Skarnales. Nick recounts going on tour with the Los Skarnales and later falling into a situation playing bass for country recording artist Billy Joe Shaver.
