Notes

  • -  Summary: Scott Kay was born and raised in Chicago, and now lives in Los Angeles. Scott has immense national and international experience as a DJ/music maker, that started working at his local roller skate rinks as a kid. He speaks about what it was like to be in Chicago when house music was born, from listening to the local radio stations, such as KCRW, to attending festivals, such as The Chosen Few (south side) and West Fest (west side). He speaks on his own struggles with imposter syndrome and self-limiting beliefs as well as the contrast between the underground events and the commercial "Hollywood" events. It is a challenge to build sustainable community events and to reach new generations. One of his favorite events was a Friday night party with Tony Watson at Club More, which they ended while it was at its peak. Scott Kay created the music label, Box Music. Scott Kay started a party called We Own the Night with Juan Hoerni and Roy Davis Jr that has been going for over 12 years.
