  • -  Summary: Eric Offner was in his kitchen listening to jazz when a friend called telling him to turn on his television. After turning it on he saw the south tower get struck and spent much of the day on the telephone with friends. He comments on how little his life has changed since the events of September 11, but expresses compassion for the many thousands of family members directly affected. Offner says this is not a major event in his life considering his life history. Offner's family fled Austria during Adolf Hitler's regime. He remembers fleeing Kristallnacht as a child in November 1938. Some of his family died at Dauchau, and he endured heavy bombings in Europe during World War II. Regarding September 11, he focuses more on the political aspects of the situation rather than on the human physical tragedy. He believes Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden are extremely clever and are attempting to wage war between other countries. He fears continued unrest and issues with security in the United States, Israel, and Europe.
