Notes

  • -  Interview with Francisco "Arturo" Mantilla, co-owner of Elsa's Fashions on 21st Avenue.
  • -  Summary of audio segment: AM describes a little of the process of dressmaking, and the division of labor in the shop upstairs. AM finds and orders the material. Elsa and another woman design the dress, size and fit it, etc. Then two other women sew and do the hand work for the dress. When they finish, Elsa brings the dress down and fits the customer, then they make any final alterations. Elsa manages that part of the business, and has experience for that because she worked in a factory (as a sewing machine operator).
