Notes
- - Significance: The three-masted, steel-hulled ship Balclutha was a typical British-built sailing cargo vessel when constructed in 1886. Today it is just one of a handful of such vessels surviving in the world. As an artifact of the international trade that built the economy and culture of San Francisco and California, the ship has no equal. It retains a high degree of integrity in its hull materials and form and in its lofty rig, which has, perhaps uniquely among historic tall ships, never been wholly removed. Its historic importance was recognized through designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1985.
