Join us for a special 75th anniversary screening of the Oscar-winning classic “All About Eve” (1950), introduced by Library of Congress film preservation experts.
This unforgettable tale of ambition and betrayal follows aging Broadway star Margo Channing, whose world is upended by the seemingly devoted young fan Eve Harrington. What begins as ambition soon spirals into manipulation, exposing the allure—and cost—of fame. Starring Betty Davis, Anne Baxter and Marilyn Monroe in a breakout role, the film was added to the Library’s National Film Registry in 1990. Widely considered one of the greatest films ever made, “All About Eve” earned a record-setting 14 Academy Award nominations and won six, including Best Picture. Its sharp, witty screenplay and ensemble cast exemplify the sophistication and craftsmanship that defined Hollywood’s Golden Age.
This screening is part of the Library's Golden Age of Hollywood Costume Ball—an evening inspired by the Library’s vast collections of film, music and photographs that reflect the allure, glitz and iconic faces of Hollywood at the height of the studio system. Guests can explore special curated displays of archival treasures, highlights from the National Film Registry and the groundbreaking preservation work of the Library’s National Audio-Visual Conservation Center.
Please reserve a film screen ticket only if you plan to stay for most or all of the full program, including the talk and the movie. To help maintain a comfortable and quiet environment for all attendees, we ask that guests keep movement in and out of the auditorium to a minimum during the program. Food and drink are not permitted inside the auditorium.
Guests with screening tickets are welcome to enjoy Costume Ball festivities before and after the film. If your main interest is the Ball, please reserve a separate ticket for that here. A nearby room will offer a live video feed of the screening for casual viewing.
