The impeccable Berlin-based Leonkoro Quartet has already earned a reputation as one of the world’s notable string quartets. Founded by violinist Jonathan Schwarz and his brother Lukas, a cellist, and joined by Amelie Wallner, violin, and violist Mayu Konoe, viola, the group swept the Wigmore Hall competition in 2022, taking nine prizes—the first of many. Fresh, fearless and vibrant, the quartet is known for performances that match its name; “Leonkoro” comes from the Esperanto words for “lion” and “heart.” This season takes them to Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, which gave the quartet its Young Talent Award, Carnegie Hall and the Vienna Konzerthaus. Don’t miss this chance to hear this remarkable group performing works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and a 1927 quartet by the Dutch composer Henriëtte Bosmans on the Library’s renowned Stradivari instruments.
