With four basic ingredients – pasta, cheese, cream, and butter – a bowl of macaroni and cheese evokes feelings of comfort, nostalgia, indulgence and happiness. This dish has a long history, dating back millennia, yet continues today to be featured on American kitchen tables. Food historian and author Karima Moyer-Nocchi will visit the Library to discuss her new book, “The Epic History of Macaroni and Cheese: From Ancient Rome to Modern America.” Moyer-Nocchi will also share how her research process led her to the Library of Congress to utilize cookbooks, magazines, business collections, and manuscripts when writing her book.
This program will include a curated display of cookbooks, a book signing and a macaroni and cheese tasting.
