Notes
- - Significance: Building R, also known as the "George Kamau Training Facility," and the "War Memorial Swimming Pool" are located at 1564 N King Street. Building R is a one-and-a-half story building with a stepped concrete roof which served as bleachers for the adjacent pool. The "War Memorial Swimming Pool" is significant as it is associated with the development of Farrington High School, the Farrington Alumni Association, and World War II. Historical context for these two facilities includes the post-World War II expansion of public education facilities across Hawaii as well as the Progressive Education Movement. At its time of construction, it was the only freshwater pool of its type in the Territory and allowed Oahu residents to compete in an Olympic regulation sized pool. Additionally, Building R is a distinguishable work because of its method of construction. The facility is a good example of an integrated physical education, competitive swimming, and stadium viewing facilities constructed during the 1950s at a high school campus. The pool was constructed in 1955 after an eight-year fundraising campaign of the Farrington Alumni Association with the goal of building a pool as a memorial to the Farrington students who gave their lives in the line of duty and for others who served during World War II. The swimming pool was utilized by both the school and the community since its dedication through 1998, when challenges of maintenance and budgetary constraints forced the closure of the pool. Since then, the pool has been abandoned, while Building R is still in use in a limited capacity.
