About this Item
Title
- Senator Derek Kitchen, Utah
Summary
- "Senator Derek Kitchen is a lifelong Utahn. He is standing up for Utah's future and committed to public service. In November of 2018, Derek Kitchen was first elected to the Utah Senate becoming the youngest member of the Senate, and the only opening LGBTQ member of the Legislature. Prior to assuming his role as State Senator, Derek was elected as a member of the Salt Lake City Council, representing District 4, where he concurrently served as the Chair of the Salt Lake City Redevelopment Authority. Before his election to public office, Derek prevailed in his landmark lawsuit against the State of Utah (Kitchen v Herbert, 2013) which brought marriage equality to the 10th Circuit and created important case law, paving the way for the freedom to marry nationwide. Derek firmly believes in holding power to account, never giving up on people, and fighting for the underrepresented." - derekkitchen.com, June 2022
