  • Journal of the bark Northern Light kept chiefly by Eleanor N. Baker while accompanying her husband, Captain Michael Baker, and their son on a whaling voyage, probably out of New Bedford, Mass., to the southwestern Pacific Ocean, primarily New Zealand and Fiji. Entries document the bark's latitude and longitude, weather, sighting and taking of whales, number of barrels of whale and sperm oil processed, visiting and sighting of ports and islands, names of ships and captains encountered, and life aboard ship.
