  • Volume (150 pages) containing correspondence, reports, requisitions, and lists of sick and wounded soldiers (1862-1864) sent by Abbottt to fleet surgeons George Clymer and William Johnson during his service as assistant surgeon on the USS Catskill (ironclad monitor), South Blockading Squadron, U.S. Navy, along the coast of South Carolina and an inventory of medical supplies received aboard the USS Niagara (steam frigate) in New York harbor. Postwar letters concern medical practice in Wakefield, Mass. Includes notes (1861-1887) on Massachusetts veterans examined for disability and subjects such as alcohol, drugs, lead poisoning, parasites, and vaccination. Other correspondents include John Adolphus Bernard Dahlgren, Samuel Francis Du Pont, Charles D. Maxwell, George W. Rodgers II, Gideon Welles, and William Whelan.
