Waterman, Jr., Philadelphia, Pa., describing the movement of Federal troops under General Nathaniel Prentiss Banks up the Mississippi River to Vicksburg, Miss.; and the siege of Port Hudson, La., 1863. Ayres also describes economic conditions in Louisiana; shipping conditions and the Union Fleet in New Orleans, La.; the price of sugar and cotton and the amounts awaiting shipment; and the market price of agricultural goods in New Orleans.
