  • -  Original typescript, with some handwritten corrections in pencil and the date 1926 written in brackets at the top, on onion-skin legal-size paper, of an advertising speech by Senator Couzens of Michigan. It "pitches" to the citizens of Detroit a plan to raise money for a Convention and Tourist Bureau intended to promote Detroit across the land as a major convention city and a destination for tourists and motorists. Also included are two typed memos, one of which asks Couzens to change his original "canned speech," presumably the one dated September 21, 1925, that appears in the same folder, and replace it with a speech (presumably this one) that is less dependent "on a financial or monetary basis." In this speech, accordingly, Couzens pursues the strategy of appealing to Detroit's citizenry in terms of ethics and spiritual motives. Reproduced as facsimile page images: 3 pages.
