Notes

  • -  One of a number of studies of black populations in various cities by the National Urban League in the 1920s. The report is a printed narrative in four chapters of varying length, covering the physical and socio-economic conditions of African Americans in Minneapolis in 1926. There is neither a table of contents nor an index. Though more detailed and sophisticated than the Urban League report "A Survey of the Negro Population of Fort Wayne (Indiana)," by Charles S. Johnson, the Minneapolis report lacks the Fort Wayne report's reliance on personal accounts. Topics covered in the Minneapolis study include historical background, migration and population analysis, education, employment, trade unions, health, public opinion and racial attitudes, and a final, short chapter on "What is a Race?" Many tables provide much useful information. Selected from folder: 81 pages.
