David Wagoner was born in Massillon, Ohio, in 1926. He is the author of more than 20 poetry collections, including Traveling Light (1976), The House of Song (2002), and Good Morning and Good Night (2005). He is also the author of many novels, including The Escape Artist (1965) and Whole Hog (1976). His honors include an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award, the Sherwood Anderson Award, the Fels Prize, and the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize. He has also received fellowships from the Ford Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Wagoner has been teaching at the University of Washington since 1954 and lives in Bothell, Washington.
