Biography Robert Lowell

Robert Lowell was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1917. He was the author of 17 poetry collections, including Lord Weary’s Castle (1946), winner of the Pulitzer Prize; Life Studies (1959), winner of the National Book Award; and Day by Day (1977), winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award. He also published several plays, books of prose, and translations. From 1947-1948, Lowell served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress. From 1962-1977, he served as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Lowell taught at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, the University of Cincinnati, Boston University, Harvard University, and the New School for Social Research. Robert Lowell died in 1977.
