September 25, 2025 Library To Host Monthly Fall and Winter Family Days
Themes Include Comics, Giving Thanks, Winter Holidays and Washington’s Birthday.

The Library of Congress will host monthly Family Days on select Saturdays throughout the fall and winter season, including programming focused on comics, Thanksgiving and harvest festivals, winter holidays, and George Washington’s Birthday.
Families and visitors of all ages are invited to participate in collections-based activities for budding researchers and explore exhibitions on display in the Thomas Jefferson Building. Each program includes a creative activity, connections to Library of Congress collections, a chance to talk to staff experts and a guide to using Library resources at home. All events are free of charge.
Programming Highlights
October Family Day: Creating Comics
Oct. 18: Families of all ages are invited to create their own comics and see a display of items from the Library’s extensive comics collections. The activities will be held on the mezzanine level of the Jefferson Building from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Jefferson Building. Register for free tickets.
At 2 p.m., hear bestselling cartoonists Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud discuss how they created their graphic novel “The Cartoonists Club.” The author talk will take place in the Coolidge Auditorium. Separate, free ticketing for this event is required and will be available here.
November Family Day: Giving Thanks
Nov. 15:
Celebrate the role of family recipes at Thanksgiving and learn about fall festival traditions in other cultures. Chat with staff from the Science and Business Reading Room about their cookbook collections and explore harvest festival collections material with the Asian Reading Room. Then, create your own cookbook with recipes from the collections to start your own family tradition. The program will be held on the mezzanine level of the Jefferson Building from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 15. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Jefferson Building. December Family Day: Winter Wishes
Dec. 26-27: Use winter-themed imagery from the Library’s collection to create holiday cards, bookmarks and more. Programming will take place on both Friday, Dec. 26 and Saturday, Dec. 27. Activities will be held on the mezzanine level of the Library’s Jefferson Building from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Jefferson Building. February Family Day: Happy Birthday, George Washington!
Feb.14, 2026: Join us for activities and collections to mark Washington’s Birthday, as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Explore “The Two Georges” exhibition and learn about the parallel lives of George Washington and King George III. The program will be held on the mezzanine level of the Library’s Jefferson Building from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 14. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Jefferson Building.
