  • -  Lura Stanley was interviewed on September 28, 1978, at her home. Geraldine Johnson described Mrs. Stanley's quilts as "truly exquisite." She grew up on a farm and learned to quilt as a child, worked as a school teacher, and now makes quilts for herself and her family. She also has some older quilts which she bought at auctions. The highlights of this interview include Mrs. Stanley's comments on individual quilts as they were photographed.
  • -  Transcription: LS: I really don't know whether men appreciate quilts or not, as much as, as much as females, but I, I hope they do. / GJ: Does he appreciate it? / LS: I think so. Yes. I was making a, I gave my other grandson, one that's younger than Steven, the Dresden Plate. He came here, he was at VPI, and came home one weekend, and came down to see me. And, I was working on the Dresden Plate and he thought it was so beautiful that he, he, just, I could tell he just loved it and wanted it so badly. And I really was making it for Steven, and so, I decided that, I would just give Dale that one and make Steven another one. So that's why I hardly got Steven's done, finished before, but Dale thought that Dresden Plate was such a beautiful quilt that I knew that he really wanted it. So I gave it to him. And he took it to college, and put it on his bed for awhile to show it off. / GJ: And then what did he do with it? / LS: I, don't know what. He's graduated from college this spring. He has it, I'm sure.
