STATUS/COMMENTS:
06/11/19 – Submitted to the MARC Steering Group for consideration as a MARC Fast-Track proposal.
07/09/19 – Results of MARC Steering Group review - Approved.
07/12/19 – Changes made to the MARC documentation as part of the July 2019 Addendum to MARC Update No. 28 (May 2019).
The RDA carrier type "audio belt" has not been covered in 007/01 Sound Recording configuration (//aj.sunback.homes/marc/bibliographic/bd007s.html) and Terms and Code List for RDA Carrier Types (//aj.sunback.homes/standards/valuelist/rdacarrier.html).
The RDA definition is:
A carrier type consisting of a loop of flexible plastic or magnetic film on which audio signals are mechanically recorded, commonly known under the trade name Dictabelt.
We propose that a new value (“b”) needs to be defined in Sound Recording 007/01 – Specific material designation. This suggested definition is borrowed heavily from RDA:
Belt - A loop of flexible plastic or magnetic film on which audio signals are mechanically recorded, commonly known under the trade name Dictabelt.
In the Terms and Code List for RDA Carrier Types, a two character code ("sb") for the carrier type "audio belt" should also be added.
In Field 007/01 (Sound Recording – Specific material designation) of the MARC 21 Bibliographic Format, define the following code for RDA carrier type "audio belt":
b - Belt
A loop of flexible plastic or magnetic film on which audio signals are mechanically recorded, commonly known under the trade name Dictabelt.
Under Audio Carriers in the Term and Code List for RDA Carrier Types, add the following code:
sb - audio belt
