Technical Notice February 06, 2025 -- Revised - Additions to the MARC Code Lists for Relators, Sources, Description Conventions (Network Development and MARC Standards Office, Library of Congress)

The relators listed below have been recently approved. The codes will be added to the MARC Code List for Relators list.

The codes should not be used in exchange records until 60 days after the date of this notice to provide implementers time to include newly-defined codes in any validation tables.

MARC Code List for Relators

The following relators have been added to the MARC Code List for Relators list for usage in appropriate fields and elements.

Additions:
- ink [inker] - A person or organization responsible for adding solid lines, shading and additional details to the initial pencil drawings in the creation of comic books, graphic novels, animation, etc.
- pnc [penciller] - A person or organization responsible for producing the initial line drawings based on a script in the creation of comic books, graphic novels, animation, etc.

The Library of Congress, Network Development and MARC Standards Office provides information about existing and newly assigned MARC codes on its Web site (aj.sunback.homes/marc/) as well as notices such as these to subscribers to its MARC listserv.
